Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves. What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state. What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state. Do you have any tips to help my move go more smoothly? We suggest making a detailed checklist of all the tasks you need to complete before your move. Separate the checklist into things to take care of a few months before the move, 1 month before, 1 week before and then on your actual moving day. A checklist will minimize the risk of you forgetting to take care of an important detail. Should I disassemble my furniture before the move? You can do this if you have time, but it’s not required. If your movers need to dismantle any furniture, they will reassemble it in your new home. What is hoisting? ?Certain large awkward items such as wall units or pianos may have to be hoisted out of a window instead of being carried down a flight of stairs. Check with your moving company about the availability and cost of this service. What is basic coverage for released rate liability? This type of valuation means that your moving company will pay $0.60/pound multiplied by the weight of the item if it is lost or damaged during the move. What should I do with essential items I need on my moving day? We recommend that you transport any essentials such as bed linens, towels, toilet paper, cosmetics, toiletries and medication in your own vehicle. If this isn’t possible, clearly mark these boxes and make sure your movers place them in a specific place at your destination. What is a booking agent? This is the agent you choose as your mover or the member of a van line that will coordinate all dates and services for your move. What is valuation insurance? Valuation insurance covers you for any damage that occurs to your belongings while they are in transit or stored in another vehicle. How soon in advance do I have to book one of your movers or packers? This depends on the availability. However, you should contact a moving company as early as possible once your moving date has been confirmed. The summer months are always much busier so you may require more notice. Can I ride with the movers on my moving day? No, moving companies do not allow passengers to accompany them in the moving truck for liability reasons. Can my movers disconnect my gas? No, movers are not licensed to disconnect gas so you will have to hire another professional to perform this service. |
